We recently had a great grandmother come to our shelter to drop off some clothes for her SIX great grandchildren. The siblings ranged from age 6 to 15 years old. She was heartbroken they were in foster care, but through her tears she said something that reminded me why the shelter is here.

“I’m so glad they’re here because they were losing weight at home. They weren’t getting enough food this summer.”

Many children in crisis are food insecure, but thanks to a $50,000 grant from Tyson Foods, our children receive 5 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner and 2 snacks).

Thanks to Tyson’s support, our Happy Plate food program allows us to have fresh fruit available at ALL times, the children can help prepare meals, learn kitchen basics AND we are able to take the kids out to eat. Some have never eaten guacamole, interacted with a waitress or ordered off a menu, but during their stay we are able to change that.

Thank you to Tyson Foods for the generous support of our food program and for the team members from Van Buren, Fort Smith and Waldron for going above and beyond and giving the exterior of our shelter some much needed TLC. #MealsThatMatter #CESHappyPlate
